Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is a special time for mums to be, the excitement of knowing that very soon you will be able to see, love and hold your baby in your arms. As your pregnancy progresses through your trimesters, your body changes significantly as you would expect.

Pregnancy massage aims to relax the muscles tension, improve lymphatic and blood circulation, promote healing and your wellbeing both mentally and physically.

Back Pain: Over my time as a therapist and having children of my own, the most common problem appears to be in the lower back, and feet, this could be due to a number of reasons. As your baby grows, ladies posture changes and naturally they begin to arch their backs.

Sciatic nerve pain: Many women in late pregnancy suffer with sciatic nerve pain it is caused as the uterus rests on the muscles of the pelvic floor and lower back. The pressure of the uterus spreads tension to the muscles of the upper and lower leg causing them to swell and put pressure on the nerves nearby. Massage addresses the inflamed nerves by helping to release the tension on nearby muscles.

Hormones: Progesterone can cause ligaments, joints to soften and hips may feel tender from sleeping on your side. Hormonal change can also cause headaches and migraines to become more frequent.

Stretch marks: As your baby grows, so does your belly, causing your skin to tighten and stretch leaving you with those lovely stretch marks. Using good nourishing oil combined with massage will make your skin soft and smooth reducing itchiness and promote collagen and elastin to prevent the severe strech marks.

Blood flow: Your circulation has to work twice as hard, which can cause leg cramps or ankle swelling. Swelling during pregnancy is often caused by reduced circulation and increased pressure on the major blood vessels. Massage helps to stimulate soft tissue to reduce the collection of fluids in swollen joints.

De-Stress: It is important to not feel stressed during pregnancy, as this can affect you and your baby. If you are in a good mind set you will find your pregnancy to be a lot easier and definitely enjoyable. Studies show having a massage reduces anxiety, decreases symptoms of depression and can improve labour outcome.

Pregnancy massage can give you some time out for yourself to rest, recoup and with less aches and pains from having a massage, it will most definatley aid better sleep.
